Synopsis
Oscar attempts to make the breakfast of his dreams.
Description
Oscar is dreaming of making the perfect breakfast by dancing around his kitchen. This is a recurring dream, and Oscar doesn't think he can achieve it due to his clumsy nature. Hedgehog arrives and says it's his tiny cabin kitchen setup (only a hot plate) that's holding him back, and suggests they try the Monsters' kitchen. All the monsters but Melvin are going out pine-needle skiing, so they're fine with Oscar using the kitchen. Hedgehog tells them to "break a leg" as they leave. This upsets them because everyone knows that "break a leg" only means good luck in the arts, in athletics it just means what it says. Then, when they go inside they learn Melvin has just cleaned the kitchen, and is extremely particular about it's cleanliness. They must prove their tidiness to him before they can use the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Ava, Margo, Blanche, and Mortimer all break their legs in quick succession. They believe Hedgehog has accidentally put a spell on them, until the elves in the Ski Patrol ask if they've had breakfast. They remember they didn't eat because Melvin was cleaning the kitchen so hard. Then Howard breaks his leg, too.
To prove their cleaning abilities, Melvin takes Oscar and Hedgehog to the Mess Hall and tries to convince the Alligator Chefs to let them clean the Mess Hall kitchen's cast iron cookware. The Alligator Chefs refuse and say this isn't the first time Melvin has tried this, but the first time he's gotten the kids in on it. Hedgehog and Oscar call him a "clean fiend" and admire his infamy, and they go back to the Monster House, where Melvin relents and says Oscar can dance-cook if Hedgehog cleans as he goes.
Oscar begins, but things aren't quite right. Hedgehog performs the "Boop-boop spell" (a sleeping spell), and the two examine his dream to see what's missing. Turns out, in the dream he was cooking for a hungry group of five. Just in time, the Monsters arrive back home, hungry from all day getting casts on. Oscar is finally able to dance his way to an amazing breakfast - for dinner! Everyone loves it, but Hedgehog had gotten so wrapped up watching this feat, that she forgot to clean as he went. Melvin says not to worry, as he realised today that he just really loves "the sacred ritual of cleaning" and goes about cleaning up the mess with a smile.
