Synopsis

While Hedgehog is off "werewolfing", a deflated Oscar has a therapy session with Shark that helps him realize the magic within him.

Description

The episode starts with the moon being excited that he's in the full phase of himself, and Hedgehog is a bit late for werewolfing. Hedgehog asks Oscar what he's going to do tonight. He replies that he'll probably bake something, or look at some books. Hedgehog asks Oscar to save her some cinnamon rolls if she comes back late after werewolfing. Oscar says goodbye to Hedgehog, reminding her to think of him fondly and often, with a feeling unbeknownst to him inside. He wonders what to do as he spends a classic night by himself. Oscar feels that he has a stomach knot, and dives into the pool to have a therapy session with Dr. P. Shark.

Oscar describes his symptoms to Shark, saying that it could be indigestion or psychological. Shark observes that Oscar consistently has these symptoms every time it's the full moon, and asks him if he knows the reason why. Oscar replies that he may be allergic to the moon. Shark refutes this, saying that no one is allergic to the moon. He asks Oscar if this has to do with Hedgehog being a werewolf.

Shark tells Oscar to take his time, to describe how he feels about his situation. Oscar says to Shark that he isn't magic, feeling insignificant compared to Hedgehog who has all kinds of magic stuff going on. Hedgehog is both a witch and a werewolf, which he loves her for but he's worried about her telling him about all the cool stuff she did. Oscar tells Shark that he's proud of her, but is embarassed that he feels sad too.

Shark walks away momentarily to bring Oscar therapy goggles. Oscar is annoyed because he assumed that Shark was advising him to exercise as the solution to the problem. Shark clarifies that they are therapy goggles, not swimming goggles. He asks Oscar to give them a whirl. Oscar flashbacks to when he and Hedgehog were 6 months old, both playing with a cardboard tube. Oscar feels insulted that he relived a moment of Hedgehog's mum belittling him. Shark is baffled, wondering how Oscar missed the point. Shark encourages him to try the therapy goggles again.

Oscar flashbacks to when both he and Hedgehog were in primary school, right before a maths test. He assures Hedgehog that she'll do just fine on the test, and that there's nothing to worry about. He goes through the flash cards again just to test her. Hedgehog wonders why she feels so nervous. Oscar says that it's likely due to the idea of her mum yelling at her if she messes up. Shark asks him how it went, with him replying that Hedgehog aced the maths test, Hedgehog being a genius. Shark is exasperated that Oscar missed the point again. He rubs the therapy goggles to clean them and tells Oscar to try again, this time taking in the whole scene.

Oscar then flashbacks to when he was at Hedgehog's window sill, with Hedgehog concerned for him not saying anything. She asks why he's standing there like a weirdo. Oscar replies that it was because she looked sad, and he was confused. Oscar asks Hedgehog how she could feel sad on the first day of summer. Hedgehog tells Oscar that it was because the tooth fairy didn't come. Oscar says to Hedgehog that there's nothing to worry about, because his mum told him that the tooth fairy gets very busy sometimes. If the tooth fairy forgets about your tooth, that's all it is. Oscar tells Hedgehog that she's in luck, because he knows someone even cooler than the tooth fairy, asking her to hold on for a short moment. The Substitute Fairy greets Hedgehog, with Hedgehog recognising that it's really Oscar in disguise. The Substitute Fairy came to give her sweets to make her teeth fall out. Hedgehog immediately feels better, being comforted by Oscar's entertaining presence. Hedgehog tries to eat the sweets, but they were really Bran flakes. Oscar explains that his mum won't let him buy the sugary kind, with him feeling sad inside. Hedgehog says Oh, at the realisation, and apologises for making him feel sad.

Oscar cries that he only had healthy stuff to eat given by his mum, and never built up any defences towards sugar. He always craves soda 24 hours a day because of it. Oscar asks Shark if that was it all along, and that he solved the problem. Shark denies it as being silly, and that they'll just have to keep digging. Oscar doubts using the therapy goggles again, with his past memories cutting close to the bone. Shark reassures Oscar to give them one last try, explaining that the therapy goggles take a while to warm up and that it should be ready by now. Oscar accepts it, and the therapy goggles activate again.

Oscar flashes back again to when he and Hedgehog were 6 months old, but something was different this time. He saw a pink glow emanating around him, reaching Hedgehog. The glow was around him in primary school with Hedgehog being affected by it then as well. It was there when he was making Hedgehog feel better in her bedroom. Oscar wonders what it was, since it was with him wherever he went. It was there when he helped an old lady get the book she wanted in the library, when he played the recorder around a plant, when he was with his dad in the office, when he helped little kids cross the street.

Oscar takes off the therapy goggles, wondering who he really is. He wondered if he was radioactive, if it was contagious. Shark informs Oscar that he's a Glow Worm. Oscar is skeptical that he's a worm of all things. Shark tells Oscar that he was right about being contagious, since that's what glow worms do in the magical world. They bring magic where there isn't any. Shark proceeds to pull a chart showing the magic chain, explaining that no one can do magic without people like Oscar. Oscar says Wow, astonished by this amazing fact. Shark opines that glow worms are pretty cool. He tells Oscar that Hedgehog's magic may be easier to spot without magic goggles on, but his magic is in there too. It's in you Oscar, You are magic! Shark tells Oscar that his magic is just as important as the kind Hedgehog has. Oscar thanks Shark for the therapy session, with a big smile on his face. Shark asks Oscar if he wants to keep the goggles for a bit, to which Oscar agrees. He then leaves Dr. P. Shark's office and swims up to the surface.

Oscar sees Ava by the pool, and asks her why she's feeling down. Ava replies that he caught her pool gazing, with her wishing to learn how to swim since she loves the water but is afraid of it. Oscar feels happy to help Ava, and proceeds to teach her how to swim since he knows all the different swim strokes. He looks underwater with the therapy goggles on and sees his Glow Worm magic spreading beneath the surface, being amazed at the sight of it. Oscar presumably goes to bed after.

In the morning, Oscar prepares wolffles as a delicious breakfast for Hedgehog after her night spent werewolfing. Hedgehog is excited to tell him all about her werewolfing experience, but asks Oscar how his night went. Oscar replies that it was just yet another regular night for him, but that he didn't mind. Oscar asks Hedgehog what she did all night, both of them feeling very elated. The Glow Worm magic is seen spreading outside Oscar's cabin. Ava is very content swimming by herself in the pool with her newly learned skill.
