Hedgehog is one of two protagonists in ?Summer Camp Island, along with her best friend Oscar.
Appearance
Hedgehog is an anthropomorphic hedgehog, having brown fur/hair, brown, pointy ears, and a cream-colored face. Her outfit consists of a purple party hat, a white shirt, a maroon sweater, a navy blue skirt, white socks, and black shoes.
In her ?werewolf form, she has brown fur across her body and face. Her fingers and toes also become lengthened and sharp.
Personality and Information
Hedgehog is very level-headed and logical. She grew up in New Jersey with Oscar. She mostly wants to help Oscar out of his comfort zone, but also wants to outdo ?Susie. ?Her mother pushes her to an extreme standard, often wishing for her endeavors to be "great" rather than just "good".1 In Hall of Mooms, Hedgehog's mom is complaining to a school supervisor over telephone about how "macroeconomics and theoretical statistics should be on the [school's] syllabus". When confronted, she replies, "why does it matter if she's in the seventh grade if she isn't being challenged?"
Due to the events of Hedgehog Werewolf, Hedgehog transforms into a werewolf at the full moon every month, engaging in wolf activities with ?Betsy and the other werewolves of the island. After the events of Spell Crushers, she finally gets her magic wand from Betsy after she passed her Witch Final Exams. However, in the following episode The Library, it got confiscated by Susie after she sees her performing magic spells with it. Apart from magic, Hedgehog enjoys playing music, hosting a radio show, and learning about science.
In Hall of Mooms, Hedgehog gets her broom made, but initially has difficulties flying on it due to a long-standing generational habit. To solve this, she and Oscar went to her Hall of Mooms to find the source. To get in, she uses a key that is later revealed to be her witch brooch. The habit is broken, and Hedgehog is able to fly on her broom.
As of ?If I Only Had a Wand, she is now a witch—However, she never underwent a ?Gibbous Rite.
Relationships
Oscar
Oscar is Hedgehog's childhood best friend, being shown to grow up with him2 since the two were babies. Oscar's clumsiness and wit seems to pair well with Hedgehog's logistic and planned attitude.
Max
She used to have crush on ?Max, but she was heartbroken when she found out he wasn't interested in her.
Her friends helped her get over her heartbreak, and it's now "not weird between them".3
Susie
Hedgehog was originally on rough terms with Susie, often loathing her presence. Ever since becoming her teacher,4 Susie at first hated teaching Hedgehog magic, and Hedgehog hated how bossy she would be, but over time Susie begun to open up to Hedgehog becoming a witch like herself. In ?If I Only Had a Wand, she made Hedgehog into a witch.
Trivia
- Her cabin flag is a textbook.
- Her favorite genre of music is "Yeti Metal," a play on heavy metal.
- She is 5 months younger than Oscar.5
- Her name is often translated as the literal word for "hedgehog" in a localization's language.
- This is not the case for German, which simply uses Hedgehog as opposed to Igel for Hedgehog's name. This applies to other dubs as well, such as Japanese 「ヘッジホッグ」(Hezzehoggu).
- Due to the fact that the word for "hedgehog" is masculine in many languages, most dubs often translate Hedgehog's name with a feminine ending (i.e. French Herisonne).
- This is not the case for Spanish or Portuguese, where Hedgehog's name uses a masculine ending (as in Erizo, Ouriço).
- She runs cold (in terms of body temperature).6
- Oscar often tells her about his problems.7
