Synopsis
Ramona invites Hedgehog and Oscar to participate in a special holiday ritual.
Description
Oscar and Hedgehog receive late night invitations to a potluck held at the monsters' house that's going to be held at midnight. Hedgehog is told to bring pepper, and Oscar is told to bring salt. When they arrive, the monsters are preparing for the event known as the Midnight Quittance, which is a celebration of Time itself.
The monsters finish preparing the main course for the night. The group uses magic moon rocks to stop time, and Ramona is seen in the kitchen making final touches for the evening. She and the monsters explain that time originally didn't pass in a linear fashion. It used to randomly change, as people could be an old man one minute and then a baby the next. The first Midnight Quittance happened when some monsters made a soup. In exchange for the soup every year, time would agree to always continue in a continuous pattern.
As the ceremony begins the monsters read some passages about Time. Hedgehog adds the pepper to the soup, but when Oscar is about to add the salt he realises he forgot that it was in his coat pocket when Howard took his coat as they arrived. Oscar plans to go get the salt, but he is so tired that he falls asleep on his way to the coat closet. A magical glowing door appears above the table, which is explained to be Time ready for their soup. Since Oscar didn't get the salt in time, the ritual failed and the promise to Time was now broken.
Suddenly the scene changes rapidly, as each person in the room is being randomly aged forwards and backwards. Oscar is overwhelmed and suddenly realises he is experiencing his past and future in a random order. He waits for the moment when Howard took his coat and grabs the salt. Magically he and the rest of the group are pulled back to when the ritual was being performed but Oscar seemingly was the only one to remember when time went haywire. Ramona hints that she still knows what happens and says Oscar did a good job with the salt.
When the soup is finally complete the magical door appears and Time (not seen) lowers a giant straw into the soup and drinks it. Water is the only thing left in the bowl. Everyone added their moon rocks to the water and the ritual ended. Ramona thanks everyone for joining her, and bids them farewell until next time.

Trivia
- Howard's interactions between Oscar and Hedgehog differ, based on their personalities.
- It is revealed that Oscar is older than Hedgehog, by 5 months.
- Dressing up as a wizard will likely always be cool, since 2 kids from the future in broken time are seen dressed up as magic wielders.
Continuity
- The honey in the honey jar foreshadows it's importance in ?Honeydew Hatch.
- The sand art that appears in the honey jar when time starts to break apart foreshadows it's appearance in ?Meet Me in Massachusetts.
- It is revealed that the moon rocks don't need to be thrown in the ocean to resume time, but the appropriate salt concentration in a body of water is what's necessary.
- The future events that Oscar experiences in broken time were possibilities that could happen, based on his current chronological momentum in this episode. The events may or may not still happen, possibly in different ways.
- It is revealed that Oscar and Hedgehog were both right in this episode when remembering what they had for lunch on the last day of school 3 years ago. Hedgehog had leftover pizza, while Oscar had spanakopita. Oscar shared his spanakopita with Hedgehog, so they both ended up having spanakopita.
- Hedgehog getting leftover pizza is likely a sign of neglect from her parents, who didn't spend time to at least prepare a proper lunch for her.
