Synopsis
Oscar and Hedgehog go to a magical etiquette class.
Description
Oscar comes out of the bathroom stall and starts washing his hands. A Ghost the Earnest asks Oscar to turn the water on for him, which he does. The ghost compliments Oscar's handwashing technique, but can't wash his own hands and laments that ghost hands are always sticky. Oscar says he is glad he can wash his hands. As they are about exit the bathroom, Oscar tries to open the door for Ghost, who finds the gesture incredibly rude. He says one should never open the door for a ghost, and threatens Oscar with a knuckle sandwich unless he improves his manners before storming off. Stuart emerges from a stall and recommends The Emily Ghost Institute, which he apparently frequents (though this didn't stop him from giving Oscar the business card before washing his hands, which is definitely rude).
Oscar and Hedgehog start etiquette classes off with Oscar opening the door for another ghost, who happens to be the teacher, Emily Ghost. He tries just asking why this is considered so rude, but she refuses to answer, saying he has a lot of other things to learn first. Oscar and Hedgehog learn about several rules of etiquette, but Emily Ghost again refuses to answer on why it's rude to open a door for a ghost. Oscar has trouble retaining the information without explanations, so Hedgehog teaches him a rhyme to help him remember the rules. He immediately opens the door for yet another ghost.
When test time arrives, he passes the written test with a C+ (Hedgehog gets an A+ and extra credit) but is flustered to learn it only counted for 0.0006% of his grade, and a surprise Door Practice Test will account for 100% of the final grades. Hedgehog of course nails it. When Oscar's turn comes, he starts out okay but ultimately fails when Ghost the Earnest appears with another threat.
After Oscar fails, Ghost the Earnest delivers on his knuckle sandwich threats, punching Oscar repeatedly. His ghost hands phase through Oscar's face, unable to hurt him. Oscar asks, "Isn't it actually rude to punch someone in the face?" Ernest says he got so wrapped up judging Oscar's manners, he forgot his own. After a talking-to by Emily, Ernest apologises. Oscar says he'll forgive him if only he'll explain why it's rude to open the door for a ghost.
Ghost the Earnest replies that going through doors is the only thing ghosts have, since they can't touch anything, so they don't want it taken away from them. Oscar understands and says "You first" pointing to a closed door. The ghost praises his manners and goes through the door. Oscar tries to follow, walking right into the closed door. Hedgehog bluntly states to Oscar that he isn't a ghost, when that is already very clear to him given the pain he felt when his head hit the door.
