Synopsis
Hedgehog wants to win the Golden Science Badge but runs into some unexpected competition.
Description
When the camp counsellors organise a science fair, Hedgehog notices Oscar struggling in the contest. After giving Oscar a simple chemical formula for banana ripening, Oscar messes with it and ends up discovering cloning and winning. This angers Hedgehog, filling her with a deep jealousy of her best friend's success. Hedgehog tries to convince Oscar that his win was shallow, and that the Golden Science Badge should be given to her instead. Lucy shoots down Hedgehog, pointing out that many geniuses make scientific breakthroughs after following their accidents. Oscar feels extremely happy that he's considered a genius and received accolades for the very first time, telling Hedgehog that they're both geniuses. Hedgehog grimaces at the very thought, suppressing her envy. Paulette rudely pushes Hedgehog aside to ask Oscar questions for the news press.
Hedgehog stays in bed the next day until 1:30p.m, because she doesn't want to be near Oscar and be reminded of her not winning the Golden Science Badge. Hedgehog reluctantly goes to the Mess Hall to listen to the public Q&A session held there for Oscar. Everyone is celebrating Oscar's discovery of cloning by eating cloned bananas, including sundaes made from them. Paulette asks Oscar where he gets his ideas from, and he replies that he based it on the ripening banana formula from his colleague. He gives his thanks to someone who without whom he couldn't have achieved geniushood, with Hedgehog waiting to be acknowledged. Oscar continues, saying he couldn't have done it without Original Banana. Hedgehog is disgusted that Oscar kissed the banana, giving it the spotlight that she craved.
Hedgehog enters the cloning pod, wondering how Oscar accidentally did this. Then, the lunch monster ends up cloning Hedgehog. The clone gets excited and assumes that it was Hedgehog who invented cloning, with Hedgehog disappointedly informing her that it was Oscar who invented it. Hedgehog brings her clone up to speed about all the recent events. Oscar reenters the Mess Hall, and the Hedgehog clone gets mad at Oscar. Oscar is sad that both of them are mad at him, and clones another Hedgehog to be his supportive best friend. However, he ends up making that Hedgehog angry, with the problem being repeated until there were eventually many angry Hedgehog clones.
Suddenly, Susie comes in saying the banana clones have gone bad. Hedgehog concludes that this could only mean the Hedgehog clones had gone bad too. All of the clones proceeded to riot and form an army to wreck havoc on the island. The dire circumstances of a mad Hedgehog clone horde prompted Hedgehog to complete her Fusiononononononometer. She then brings it to the Mess Hall and uses it on herself to absorb all the Hedgehog clones into her. Susie congratulates Hedgehog on her achievement, telling her to stay in school. Oscar gives Hedgehog the Golden Science Badge, since she deserves it way more than he did.
Hedgehog relishes her accomplishments finally being appreciated. Oscar apologises for acting like a fool, becoming so absorbed in his success that he was egoistic towards Hedgehog. Hedgehog forgives him, telling Oscar that she'd never have built her machine if it weren't for Oscar. Oscar uses her machine to absorb all the bad banana clones into the original banana. He then eats it, remarking that it tastes like insides.

Trivia
- This is the first episode to feature badges since Chocolate Money Badgers.
- This is the first episode to feature the science tent since Popular Banana Split.
- The Lunch Monster is shown to be especially intrigued in the mechanisms that underlie the cloning machine's operation.
- This episode is known for being a gold mine of funny screenshots.
Continuity
- Hedgehog's contempt for Oscar remains unresolved, since she never apologised for being egoistic to him. She still underestimates him and believes herself to be superior.
- Hedgehog overlooks how important Oscar is in her life, as someone who brightens up her day. Oscar has always been her emotional support for all the turmoil she's been through. She depends on Oscar just as much as Oscar depends on her. If she didn't have her best friend by her side, she would have ended up just like her parents, heartless and unsatisfied in life.
- Hedgehog is still missing the love and approval she needs from her parents, and ends up lashing out at Oscar because of it instead of expressing her emotions properly.
- The jealousy that Hedgehog has when Oscar wins the Golden Science Badge instead of her may be because her mother ingrained it into her that she must always be on top, resulting in her being burdened with such high expectations. The internal conflict she has between benefitting herself and caring for her best friend Oscar's wellbeing ends up burning her out emotionally in not just this episode, but subsequent episodes as well.
- All of the bad clones that she absorbed inside her end up negatively affecting her personality in subsequent episodes.
Cultural References
- This episode is a spoof of the Alien film franchise and Peter Medak's 1998 science fiction horror film, Species II:
- Lunch monster accidentally creating a clone of Hedgehog is a spoof of the character Dr. Laura Baker (Marg Helgenberger), who created a clone of Sil named Eve (Natasha Henstridge).
- The way Hedgehog's clones fused with Hedgehog by the ?Fusiononononononometer is a spoof of the scene where Preston "Press" Lennox (Michael Madsen) uses a pitchfork coated in Dennis Gamble's (Mykelti Williamson) blood to kills Patrick Ross (Justin Lazard) in his alien form after Patrick apparently kills Eve.
- The episode's title, Twelve Angry Hedgehogs may be a reference to the movie 12 Angry Men.
